Rong Mengyuan

Rong Mengyuan (1913-1985), historian. His hometown was Daliujie, Daliuzhen, Ningjin, Zhili Province. He went to Peking China University for study in 1931. After 18th September Incident, he joined in the students’anti-imperialism and patriotic movement. In 1932 he attended the Great Union of Anti-imperialism, and engaged in the revolutionary activities between Peking and his hometown. He joined in CCP in 1936. In 1937 the Anti-Japanese War broke out, he went to Shanxi to join in the Eighth Route Army. In 1938 he went to Yan’an and had been the section chief of the health station of the genearl military depot of the Eighth Route Army, and taught in Area Normal and Political College. In the period of liberation and at the beginning of People’s Republic of China, he had taught in Norh University and Northern China University. In 1950 he was transferred to the Instute of Modern History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences just founded from History Department, Northern China University.In 1957 he was wrongly classified as “the Right Wing”. He had been research fellow, committee member of the academic committee, and the department dean, the member of the Reorganizing and Planning Group of the Ancient Classics of the State Council,and the associate president of the Society of Modern Chinese Cultural History.
